I'm looking forward to hearing about the gig....sadly, I can't afford to go to this one. I'm hoping that Roky will be doing either a birthday or halloween gig this year, and that they are stateside so I can go!!!!! Mr. Green

Hi fizz,

Such a shame to see that this forum is overrun with spam, but great to read the occasional genuine post.

I'm really not sure what to expect from the show, but certainly know I'll enjoy myself. As a guy with limited funds, this is certainly not one to be missed!
I'll be travelling to London from North Yorkshire by bus, which is something like an eight hour journey - rather long by british standards. Just hope I won't be too tired on the night. Either way, it'll surely be worth it.

Have you seen Roky play before?

Yeah, I would love to see more activity on this forum. I've been trying to post about shows as I find out about them since the last shows listed on rokyerickson.net are from last year....the myspace page seems to be better about keeping current with gigs.

EDIT : spoke too soon about them not updating the gig list!

I went to Austin in March to see two of his gigs (my birthday present to myself)...he played with the Black Angels at the Austin Music Awards and with Okkervil River at the Ice Cream Social. Here's a link to my pictures from the Social : http://www.flickr.com/photos/28296029@N08/sets/72157615667606058/ and I got some video too : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3SAoXle_AQ

I'm going back to Austin for the birthday gig at Antone's in July. I can hardly wait!

Well, what a treat it was to see Roky in London again! Signed up on here simply cos I hoped there might have been more response to the gig elsewhere online, but couldn't find anything. Anyway, a pretty special night for all who were there.
Strange choice of support in Jeffrey Lewis, who while I don't doubt is a fan of the man himself, was not particularly satisfying as creating a mood pre-Roky. So I suppose it was lucky his set was limited to 20 minutes...
Which was great as it meant Roky hit the stage at around 9pm, all guns blazing and straight into Two Headed Dog! It was an amazing opener and the crowd were giving him a great response, which he acknowledged with a raised arm salute. When Roky played and sang he was untouchable, the band doing a solid job backing him, and most of the highlights of The Evil One were banged out, including Creature With The Atom Brain, The Wind And More, White Faces, Mine Mine Mind, It's A Cold Night For Alligators, I Walked With A Zombie, Don't Shake Me Lucifer. And we were treated to scorching versions of Splash 1 and You're Going To Miss Me. Many more songs, but unfortunately the head's still a bit fuzzy to put it in any kind of order, but those were certainly played. Only disappointment was the lack of I Think Of Demons, but that's okay, I was pretty satisfied with what we got.
The Forum is a pretty huge venue, and was far from sold out, which was a bit of a shame, but it meant everyone there was really into what was going on, and it was a bit more relaxed than being crammed in, great atmosphere all night, lots of friendly people!
Went to the previous gig at the Festival Hall a couple of years back, but sat far near the back, so this was good to get up close and see Roky properly. Sent shivers down my spine, please come back soon! Now only disappointed I can't go to Green Man Festival and see him again.

Here's a couple of dodgy pictures I took, nice and hazy! Love Roky's tiny amp!!!

White Faces and Mine Mind Mind weren't played - Don't Slander me was a nice suprise though! I was hoping for Reverberation - but wasn't to be! I thought the gig was great - the backing band are much better and heavier than the Explosives, and Roky's vocals are far stronger than the last London gig although he seemed lost at times on stage (perhaps because he's no longer taking his meds?) and was slightly disappointed that the band were only on for 68 mins.. is that the norm for Roky now?

Hey I don't know what gig you were at but he definitely played Mine Mine Mind, I'm not sure about White Faces.

I really enjoyed the show. I felt like I was witnessing something really special having never thought I would see Roky live. I think the reason they only played a 68min set was pretty evident from Roky's condition. The guys in the band had to put his guitar on him and he looked pretty spent by the end of it. Even the encore (I Walked With a Zombie) seemed to really take it out of him. I thought he did a great job and feel really lucky I was one of the people that was there.

Hm.... we'll have to agree to disagree on Mine Mine Mind! I don't remember him playing it and having quickly listened over a recording of the gig, I know for a fact it wasn't. So what gig were YOU at?? LOL And Roky often (always?) has someone put the guitar on him I think.

Here's the setlist:

TWO HEADED DOG
CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN
THE WIND AND MORE
DON'T SHAKE ME LUCIFER
STARRY EYES
BLOODY HAMMER
THE FIRE DEMON
THE BEAST
NIGHT OF THE VAMPIRE
COLD NIGHT FOR ALLIGATORS
DON'T SLANDER ME
SPLASH 1
YOU'RE GONNA MISS ME

I don't know if that's the norm for Roky, as it was the first time I'd seen him. But I was near the front and noticed the drummer seemed to be complaining about his wrist. So maybe they did cut the gig short. Too be honest I don't mind. I still can't believe I have seen Roky. It was awesome. I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Here's to next time.
